Why this happens

Ezetimibe works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs from food in the small intestine. Vitamin B12 is absorbed through a different pathway and does not interfere with how ezetimibe works. Likewise, ezetimibe does not prevent the body from absorbing or using vitamin B12.

You can continue to take both ezetimibe and vitamin B12 as prescribed. No special precautions or timing changes are necessary.

Liver disease

You must not take ezetimibe if you have moderate or severe liver disease, or if you have unexplained changes in liver function tests.

Unexplained muscle pain - ezetimibe

You must contact your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness. While rare, this can be a sign of serious muscle breakdown, especially if taken alongside a statin.

Alcohol

It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking ezetimibe. Both alcohol and ezetimibe can affect your liver; combining them may increase the risk of liver damage or inflammation. If you have a history of liver disease, you should be particularly cautious.

Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol for long periods can reduce the amount of Vitamin B12 your body is able to absorb. If you are taking B12 to treat a deficiency, it is best to keep your alcohol intake within the recommended low-risk limits.
