Combining the two can cause a 'disulfiram-like reaction', which includes severe nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, hot flushes, a pounding heartbeat (palpitations), and headaches. This includes alcohol found in some mouthwashes or cough syrups.

It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol when taking paracetamol. Combining alcohol with paracetamol increases the risk of serious liver damage.
